The beautiful and varied beaches of Tobago are wonders to behold, from turtle watching to surfing, this is the best beach bonanza around! One of the Caribbeans most special allures has to be its beautiful beaches and in Tobago beaches abound for every possible water-baby activity under the hot tropical sun! Swimming? Dive into the serene, tranquil waters of Pigeon Point. Snorkelling? Hop aboard one of Tobagos famous glass bottomed boats and explore the fascinating underwater treasures of Buccoo Reef. Turtle Watching? Some carefully patrolled beaches allow you to witness the nesting rituals of the endangered Leatherback Turtle. Soaking up the rays? Well, you can do that on any of Tobagos beaches!
Restaurants and Cuisine
The hotels serve a varied cuisine and usually to a good standard. They include fresh seafood (especially tuna and shell fish), tropical fruit, vegetables and some Caribbean dishes. You can hardly go wrong with crab and callaloo, a tasty blend of crabmeat, coconut and dasheen leaves or curried crab and dumplings. In restaurants, ask for the catch of the day, red snapper, grouper, swordfish, yellow fin tuna, kingfish or mahi mahi, perhaps. There is one outstanding meat dish served in various forms all over the island known as pepper pot. The wealth of fresh fruit provides a host of refreshing desserts. Mangoes, passion-fruit, grapefruit, bananas, paw paws and pineapple are just a few of the possibilities. There are some good restaurants around the island and the hotel guest services will have the information.
Entertainment and places to visit
The hotels offer entertainment on the property although not every night of the week, this will vary between local bands, discos and in house derived by using hotel staff. The local entertainment is limited outside of the hotels but the hotel concierge will information for the best places to visit. A must is Sunday School in Tobago does not refer to Bible readings and gospel singing, but the islands hottest weekend event an open air dance and music fest next to Buccoo beach. The evening starts off around 9pm with a fabulous show by the Buccooneers one of Tobagos finest steel pan bands and then the reggae and calypso starts. Beer and rum is cheap. There is barbecue and street food stalls, and the few shops there stay open late.
Sporting and Recreational Activities
The hotels offer a variety of water sports at the hotel beaches from the snorkelling to water skiing to help keep all ages amused. The choices of fishing activities are many from deep sea to inland are widely available and usually rewarding on and off the island. Kingfish, Spanish mackerel, Wahoo, bonito, dolphin fish and yellow tuna are the usual catches, with grouper, salmon and snapper are all found in the area and in Tobago, there are an increasing number of boats available for hire. Golf can be enjoyed in Tobago at the marvellous Mount Irvine Golf Course, former host to the Johnny Walker Pro Am and at the golf course situated at the Hilton hotel.
Climate
The tropical climate is tempered by northeast trade winds. The dry season is from November to May, but it is hottest between June and October. The climate in Tobago is pleasant most of the year and although May, June and July can be wet at times, the differentiation between the wet and dry seasons is much less acute. The Dry Season is mostly sunny, with occasional light showers. This is the weather that makes Tobago the perfect vacation spot. The average daytime temperature of 28 degrees Celsius that is warm but not unpleasantly humid and nights pleasantly cool.
